Youth Conference 2010

Youth Conference 2010

This year the Youth Conference took place in College Station, with the majority of the activities taking place at the LDS Institute building. Philip, Sarah, KC, Victor, and Chris attended. I have to say it was a huge success. It began Friday (4-16-10) at the Institute with playing pool and foosball and visiting. After supper we listened to Brother Randal Wright, LSD Institute Director in Austin. Bowling followed his devotional and ended at 11. I must apologize that I do not have any pics of Friday. Forgot my camera.

The youth stayed at the homes of Brother Kutler and Pres. McNeely.

Saturday began at 9 with cereal at the Stake Center. By ten we were at our service project and had been paired with four youth from the Spanish Branch. We went to the home of a local family that we helped with yard work. Great little family, and the youth worked hard.

By 12 we were back at the Stake Center for clean up and lunch, 70 pizzas. Plenty of food. We then returned to the Institute for workshops and seminars. We ate supper about 5:30 which was followed by the testimony meeting. We all felt the Spirit and were uplifted.
The culminating event was the dance which, I must say, was the best I have been to in quite some time. President Prior concluded the conference with a few remarks and we left for our homes about 10:15.

The following are some of the pictures I took, and a video or two.

Service

Philip took on cleaning out a shed.

What are you sweeping, or are you just posing?

Brother Holmes pitched in.

Victor and KC planting and mulching.

Some of the 70 pizzas.

Rogina Kimmons in a game.

KC, Victor and Sarah playing. Some kind of kung fu game.

KC and Philip in Mormon Feud, a take off of Family Feud.

Maycie Lowe in a skit.

Another skit.

Not really sure what this is, but its a great pic of Sarah.

Kelsey Odom, granddaughter of Brother and Sister James at the dance.

KC helping Sarah and Oscar with their dance.

Victor and Cori Decell.

If I close my eyes I can do this spin.

Mutual 3/17/10

Well it was mutual, combined. The young women were in charge of the activity and chose "Mormon Pictionary". We had a pleasant surprise. Jessica and Nicole Hallermeier stopped in to visit. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Noooooooo!

Like, you don't say!

Not at all sure what the zombie hands are for (Philip's)....

... but Sister Murders seems to know why.

Huh?

Dance 3/13/10

Once again it was time for a Stake Dance. This one was held in the Bryan Chapel.

Here we have Victor. He seemed to have a good time at the dance and, by my count, was second on to Philip in the number of songs danced.

Victor and Sarah.

I am not sure what is the most interesting part of this photo: he is blind in one eye (at times), he is surprised that I took this photo, or that he is on his cell phone during the dance (not the last time you will see this).

Philip looks wore out from dancing every dance.

We were all happy to see Maycie at the dance.

Maycie wonders why Victor is glued to the phone.

Philip waiting to dance with Kelsey Odom (cousin of Aly James)

Aly James. Always hard to catch in a photo.

Kelsey Odom.

And again.

No comment needed.

No comment could be thought of.

Aly James never lacks a partner.

Philip gets his dance with Kelsey.

This was at church the next day. Britney and Brandie wonder what Victor is talking about. KC and Chris look like they just played a joke on someone.

Mutual 03/10/10

These are from mutual tonight. I really like the video (sorry the quality is so poor, it is from my phone). It shows the scouts during their activity time. You will see David Welch (scoutmaster) and the boys. Try and see who else got in on the action. The picture is of the girls activity. They made scarves and from what I could tell the girls really liked it.

Tish and Scentsy

So I decided to go to my first Scentsy party. If you're not aware of what that is, I have to say that it involves smelly products. At least that is what I thought. My wife had bought a few of these things to put in our house from Sister Welch. I like them. Why not go to the party. Below are the pictures I took while there. I am not sure, but I don't think that people take pictures at these parties.

Here is Amanda Ross answering the door. It was held at the home of Gene and Tish Ross, both pictured here.

The thing that sealed the deal for my attendance was that they have food at these parties. It was good. Hot sauce, cheese sauce, potato salad, fruit punch, homemade candy, brownies, baked fish, and pasta. Pictured below are Janie Landry, Tanya Delaney, and Debbie Murders.

Lots of camera shy people. Barbara Ross, Debbie Murders, Janie Landry, Tanya Delaney, and Riley Disman.

Here is the hostess herself, and me.

Me again with Riley Disman.

Finally got a good picture of Sister Murders and Barbara Ross.

I have to admit that overall I had a really good time. The only letdown was that I heard that these parties there are games that you play. Unfortunately, Sister Welch had lost hers, but promised to have them at the next party. Maybe this time I will actually be invited.

Youth New Year's Eve Party 12/31/09

This year the Branch President's Youth Council decided to have a new year's eve party. The theme? Game Night.

Now you can not have a party, a youth party, without food. Here are Alex and Victor getting ready to hit the food table.

A sample of the games.

Tish explains pictionary.
The group listens.
Then tries to guess what Victor is drawing.

Kayla, you can't get help from your text buddies.
Shannon asks President Ross advice on how to draw a particular word. Always helping out.
Look close. I think that is a coon dog magazine.

I will have to give it to the youth. The night turned out to be rather fun. Be sure and ask Tish who turned out to be the Pictionary Gooroo.
